Fifteen-time major victor Tiger Woods will be presented with America's highest civilian honour by President Donald Trump in Washington next week.

"President Trump will award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to world-renowned golfer Tiger Woods on Monday, May 6 in the White House Rose Garden", Sanders said, per USA Today.

After Woods' Masters win, Trump tweeted that he would present the golfer with the Medal of Freedom "because of his incredible Success & Comeback in Sports (Golf) and, more importantly, LIFE". Trump congratulated Woods on winning the Masters Tournament last month.

Trump's Democratic foes haven't questioned whether Woods deserves the medal, which the White House said is meant to recognize "especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, or world peace, or cultural or other significant public or private endeavors". Since taking office, Trump has presented the award to numerous athletes, including Alan Page, Roger Staubach, and a posthumous award to Babe Ruth. "Woods also played golf with former President Barack Obama".

But in bestowing the honor, Trump will draw attention to an issue that has dogged him since his election: concerns that he's using his public office to benefit his business. But Mr. Trump waited only a few weeks after the Masters to celebrate Mr. Woods.

Woods is just the fourth professional golfer to receive the high honor. According to The New York Times, Woods celebrated his first Masters win in 1997 at Trump's Taj Mahal casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Woods was joined at the ceremony by his mother, Kutilda; daughter, Sam Alexis, 11; son, Charlie Axel, 10; and girlfriend Erica Herman.

"If President Obama or Hillary Clinton had given the award to Tiger, no one would have batted an eye", said Devine, who has studied the history of the award, established in 1963.

"Well, I've known Donald for a number of years", Woods added at the time. "We've played golf together". Presidents have complete discretion over whom they honor with the medal. We've had dinner together. "I've been lucky enough to have had the opportunity to do it again", Woods said upon recieving the award on Monday.

Tiger Woods took flack from leftists in 2018 when he urged people to respect the office of the president, as noted by Fox News.

"Tiger Woods showed great class in the way he answered the question about the Office of the Presidency and me".

Woods was asked previous year about his relationship with Trump, who has been engaged in an ongoing feud with a number of African-American basketball and football stars.
