He said he was approached by three Hispanic men who told him his daughter, Maleah Davis, "looks very nice, looks very sweet".
Authorities in Houston are searching for Maleah Davis, 5, who may have been abducted.
The alert put out by the city describes the vehicle as a "blue, crew-cab, Chevy pickup truck, possibly a 2010 year model".
Police in Houston, Texas are on the lookout for missing 5-year-old Maleah Davis.
Police said Vence's Nissan Altima is also missing.
"She needs a lot of care and she was sick this week, too", Holbrook said.
"We'd love the public to help us so we can fill in the blanks in this story". "I realize there's a lot of blanks in that story".
According to Holbrook, Vence was heading to the Intercontinental Airport in Houston with his two children to pick up the girl's mother when he pulled over on US 59.
Vence claimed three Hispanic men stopped in a blue, crew-cab Chevy truck.
According to police, Vence remained unconscious for almost 24 hours before fully waking up around 6pm on Saturday on Highway 6 and realizing that Maleah was gone. Vence then said he lost consciousness again.
He told police he was in and out of consciousness until about 6 p.m. Saturday, when he woke up on Highway 6 with the 1-year-old boy. He later told police that they dumped him and the toddler on the side of the road and absconded with Maleah.
Vence told authorities he tried to flag down help on the highway, but nobody would stop. Vence supposedly walked to a hospital, received treatment and then reported Maleah as missing.
"He begins walking around", Holbrook said.
The girl's mother waited for Vence at the airport, according to police, but when they failed to show up they did not report him missing until the following morning.
Holbrook told reporters that Vence is at home with family.
Anyone with information on the case is urged to call police at 713.308.3600 or Houston Crime Stoppers at 713.222.8477. She was last seen on Saturday night with three men who allegedly abducted her.
The vehicle Vence was driving - a silver Nissan Altima that belongs to Maleah's mother - is also missing, Holbrook said.
He then made the report that his daughter Maleah was missing, but now isn't being viewed as a suspect, the investigator said. The father was assaulted before he and his son were dropped off in Sugar Land at about 8 p.m. on Saturday. It has not been seen since.
Police later issued a photograph of Vence showing a mark on his forehead, hoping that people may recognize him since he can not recollect nearly 24 hours. "I would love to know more about that".
"We're hoping, the objective of the press conference is to figure out what really is true, what really happened", Holbrook said. "And I don't want to speculate".
Maleah was last seen near the Southwest Freeway and Highway 6 in Sugar Land, Houston. The group of five women, friends of Maleah's mother, resumed their efforts Monday and were joined by Texas EquuSearch.
"She's a spunky little thing, you know, and she's lovely".
"We are told Maleah has a pink bow in her hair & was wearing a light blue zip jacket, blue jeans and gray/white/pink sneakers", police said on Twitter.
