Credit: Robby FesterGoogle's Android team has been working with the Galaxy Fold for a while now but, if the report is true, this will mark the first time that the Pixel team could actually be playing with flexible components from Samsung.
The South Korean manufacturer is said to be developing a clamshell-like device, and another that folds away from the user similar to Huawei Technologies Co.'s Mate X, people familiar with the matter said, asking not to be identified discussing internal plans.
In the meantime, the company is trying to flawless the Galaxy Fold's bendy display. Samsung reportedly considered releasing it first but chose to release the current Fold model instead. And, just punctuate that point, the latest device to receive the demolition derby treatment is the Samsung Galaxy S10. India-centric features At the launch, it was announced that the Samsung Galaxy S10 will come with an improved version of Bixby Vision and is being touted as a "Make for India" innovation for Indian consumers, as it was developed by the Samsung R&D Institute, Bengaluru.
The external folding device, however, will be thinner as it has no extra screen.
Now it seems the company isn't stopping at just one foldable design - according to Bloomberg, it has another two on the way. Apparently, after about 10,000 folds, you get creases on the Fold's display that Samsung would rather not have. Bloomberg's sources said it would come after the clamshell device. Unlike its predecessors, the Galaxy S10 sports a more sophisticated display that includes an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. It's also considering offering free screen replacements to owners to compensate. Flip phones still have a small foothold in the feature phone market, but the design is certainly ripe for a reboot with the emergence of foldable displays.
The vice president also said that Samsung had to overcome a tougher challenge which was to create a "perfect close" for the foldable device.
Apart from a difference in screen and battery sizes, the standard S10 and S10+ share much in common.
Regardless, Samsung is prepping several variations of the folding phone form factor.
