North Korean and American officials will hold another round of talks next week, South Korea's Blue House announced on Sunday.

The most likely venue for the summit is the Vietnam National Convention Center, where former U.S. President Barack Obama delivered his speech back in 2016.

Meanwhile, South Korea expects the U.S.to exempt South-North economic cooperation from sanctions.

Months after their Singapore summit, Trump said that Kim had written him "beautiful letters" and that the two "fell in love". But sources have suggested that Washington and Pyongyang have yet to reach an agreement.

Can the US Speed up North Korean Denuclearization?

Can the second Trump-Kim summit end the Korean War? Mr. Trump emerged from that meeting declaring that he had all but resolved the decades-long nuclear dispute and later declared that he and Mr. Kim "fell in love". That was demonstrated during Trump's news conference in Helsinki previous year with Russian President Vladimir Putin, when the American president appeared to give Russian denials of meddling in the 2016 election more credibility than his own intelligence community's assessments.

And according to Japan's Kyodo News, Tokyo's top nuclear envoy Kenji Kanasugi is scheduled to visit Seoul on Friday, to meet his South Korean and USA counterparts during his stay.

Trump has been eager for a second summit despite a lack of significant moves by North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons program.

These included complete denuclearisation, transformation of U.S.

But a report to the UN Security Council on Monday suggested North Korea was continuing its nuclear and missiles programmes, while making efforts to protect its facilities from possible future strike.

The choice of Vietnam is symbolic and shows that politics like a river is never still.

"Much work remains to be done, but my relationship with Kim Jong-Un is a good one". Washington also apparently has a desire for Pyongyang to see Hanoi as its economic role model.

"They represent a step in the right direction", Biegun said.

On Wednesday, Stephen Biegun, U.S. special representative for North Korea, arrived in Pyongyang for talks about the envisioned summit.

The State Department said talks during Biegun's three-day trip explored Trump and Kim's "commitments of complete denuclearisation, transforming US-DPRK relations and building a lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula". "They specified their negotiation strategies and refreshed their teams of negotiators to prepare to advance the negotiations".

There are a few reasons why Vietnam, once the U.S.'s enemy in the 1960s and 1970s, will be the host of the upcoming summit.

The US leader announced the plan for his second meeting with Kim in his annual State of the Union address on Tuesday.

A confidential report to the Security Council earlier this week said actions including the illegal transfer of banned goods at sea could make sanctions - the global community's main way of putting pressure on North Korea - "ineffective". The goal of the talks will be to try to restart a peace and nuclear disarmament process for the Korean Peninsula.
