A band of light rain and cloudy weather will cover most of the country on Tuesday before a cold blast brings the temperatures down below the seasonal average.
Light snow will likely continue overnight for much of Chicagoland but should wrap up by sunrise on Sunday. Some mixing with rain or sleet will briefly be possible for some of our shore-points this afternoon before precipitation transitions back to snow later this evening and tonight. The advisory will remain in effect until 1 a.m. Monday.
Use caution when driving today as some roads may be slippery or snow-covered and visibility reduced. After morning clouds Monday, the sun will return and temperatures will warm into the upper 30s and 40s.
Winter Storm Warnings have been expanded to include Washington DC and cover nearly all of Virginia, The also include a few counties in Southeast Maryland, Winter Storm Warnings have also been expanded into Western North Carolina.
WJZ's Meg McNamara said that parts of Montgomery County saw more than 8 inches of snow.
Allegany County has already have 6 inches.
Do not pass snow plows.
Crews first focus efforts on roads that carry the most traffic, such as interstates and primary roads, followed by major secondary roads with vital emergency and public facilities, and other secondary roads and subdivision streets, VDOT said.
