According to a statement by the BCCI, the two players will now return to India and face an inquiry for misconduct and indiscipline, initiated under Rule 41 of the BCCI Constitution. The respect for cricketers in our country is huge and even foreign players say the reverence for the sport and its sportsmen is something else in our country.
The 25-year-old Pandya and Rahul apologised for their conduct after the BCCI demanded an explanation but officials unanimously made a decision to go ahead with an inquiry. They can't go out and say such things while pretending to be cool. The controversy heated up to such an extent that on Friday the duo was excluded from India's ODI series-opener against Australia after Committee of Administrators (CoA) member Diana Edulji recommended a suspension pending inquiry for their controversial comments on women.
KJo is known to have candid, and often controversial, conversations on his chat show Koffee With Karan but the latest episode crossed a line. Following a backlash, the episode has now being removed from Hotstar, the online platform on which the show is streamed, and Pandya has apologised.
While appearing on Koffee With Karan on 6 January, Pandya had narrated an incident when he bragged to his parents about losing his virginity. At a party, he proudly shared, he pointed at multiple women and said: "In sabke ke saat kuch na kuch raha he mera (I've been with all these women)". It was an entertainment show and his comments were made in a light-hearted manner. I don't want anyone to feel bad, but why don't you give birth to a child?
The show started off with Karan Johar taking pride in hosting his very first cricket episode in the history of Koffee with Karan, followed by conversations and games. He is upset at what they have said have cast aspersions on the conduct of Indian cricketers in general. "I'm little from the black side so I need to see how they move".
The thought of a talk show making life hard for so many people never came across anyone's mind until India opening batsman Lokesh Rahul and all-rounder Hardik Pandya made their presence felt (in its truest sense) on renowned talk show Koffee With Karan. "But I do wish the BCCI spends time in sensitising these young players to life beyond the dressing room; to getting them outside the bubble that is inevitable given the adulation they get".
