The LeBron James era in Los Angeles is officially underway.
LeBron got things started quickly with 18 of his team-high 26 points coming in the first-half, including a pair of tomahawk slams for his first Lakers buckets, but had a weird second half where he seemed passive and deferred to his teammates.
Instant oatmeal, to be specific.
"Um, not as fast as you guys think it's going to happen", James said when asked how long it will take for the Lakers' chemistry to develop. "It takes a while to get to where you can close your eyes and know exactly where your guys are".
The 33-year-old signed a four-year, $154 million deal with the Lakers in July after leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers. He insisted the new-look Lakers were a work-in-progress and the players were still developing chemistry.
The superstar highlighted some positives he observed on the court.
"I liked our fight to get back in the game", James said. "We were down double digits. I liked the way we shared the ball at times, as well".
His game was not ideal, however, as James went 0-4 on three-pointers and notched six turnovers.
As the Lakers are set to embark on a journey that they hope will land them in the playoff this April, they will need to have contributions from their young core, led by Brandon Ingram, to help LeBron James carry the load in Los Angeles.
