KXIP vs KKR Live Score

A day after a Russian version leaked online, and following months of production delays, Fox's latest X-Men sequel, Dark Phoenix, has finally debuted its first official trailer.

"In Dark Phoenix, the X-Men face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey".

I'll put a slight spoiler warning here because, while I have no knowledge of what happens in the film, these Dark Phoenix images appear to make a suggestion about a major plot point. The film comes out on February 14 2019. Nonetheless, this trailer gives us our best idea yet of what to expect from the movie, which is going for a more direct adaptation of The Dark Phoenix Saga, rather than taking elements of it as The Last Stand did.

We also get a look at Jessica Chastain's character, a shapeshifter now known only as "Smith", who seems to be taking a role in guiding Jean towards her darker impulses, perhaps (roughly) inspired by Mastermind's similar role in the comics story. Personally, though I like this cast a lot, the X-Men movies lost me a couple entries ago, and this somewhat flat trailer isn't doing much to change that.

We will have a more thorough breakdown of the trailer later, but for now, I have to say that looks like it could be promising.

But overall this trailer has a strong air of drama to it, and I'm excited to see the franchise take a more interior turn after the loud, somewhat incoherent Apocalypse. Will we see a Marvel character cameo in Dark Phoenix?

Who do you think Jessica Chastain is playing in Dark Phoenix? Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. Oh boy. It's the last movie in the series before the X-Men rights go over to you-know-who.

And I mean, does the modern superhero news cycle really have room for a Phoenix that isn't Joaquin?
