Tiger Woods is the only two-time victor of the FedExCup, having been victorious in the season-long race's debut in 2007 and then again in 2009. Some of the players knew what I was struggling with and it's hard to believe I've won the TOUR Championship.
Justin Rose says he was indebted to his "swing of the week" as he overcame a back-nine wobble at the Tour Championship to make a closing birdie and seal the FedExCup in dramatic fashion. A small slip on the back nine Sunday provided some extra drama, but Woods would not be denied. But, of course, these are different times, Woods is a different golfer, and McIlroy and Rose have rarely, if at all, had to contend with him at his peak. But also I realized how much golf there was to play.
Justin Rose, who entered the day three shots behind Woods, made a key birdie on 18 to win the FedEx Cup title - a four-tournament playoff with a $10 million prize to the victor.
"I am sure there would be room somewhere in the house if I happened to go on and win this event", he said.
The man once associated so intricately with winning won again, in the Tour Championship, by two shots over Billy Horschel, who lent Woods's nerves some late inconvenience.
"Congrats, Rosie", Woods told him.
"Beginning of the year (winning) was a tall order".
But this wasn't about the FedEx Cup or even the world ranking. The walk from the putting green snakes some 80 yards across the road and through a gallery, and everyone could hear him coming from the procession of cheering.
The buzz was endless.
He made the turn at 13 under par, while Englishman Rose was eight under after a three-putt bogey at the ninth hole. He tapped in for par, and another stampede ensued to line the third fairway.
Woods and Herman were seen at Wimbledon earlier this summer as well.
His last PGA Tour victory was in August 2013, when he won the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio, by seven strokes over Keegan Bradley and Henrik Stenson.
Woods has not been the closer of old in his return this year from a spinal fusion, most notably at the British Open at Carnoustie where he charged into the lead halfway through the final round before faltering.
Woods will form part of the United States side for the Ryder Cup in France from Friday.
