Android Go, also known as Android Oreo (Go edition), is a stripped-down version of Android created to run on entry-level smartphones.
Google added bill payments to the service a few months after launch, making it easier for Indian customers to recharge their phones, pay broadband and utility bills, and even pay for Uber or Ola via Tez.
Google Assistant will now serve you more relevant content to Indian users and now supports Marathi language. "That's why we're launching a new feature in Google Go that lets you listen to web pages", says Rajan Anandan, vice president, India and Southeast Asia. The digital assistant will add as many as eight new Indian languages. It supports 28 languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Malayalam, Marathi and Tamil, even on 2G connections.
Google Go's reading capability uses natural language processing and speech synthesis artificial intelligence to identify which important portions of a web page to read out loud.
Google's announcements this year focus on furthering their efforts to localise their ecosystem for Indian users.
Google is rebranding and beefing up its Indian payments app Tez ahead of plans to roll it out to other countries. The platform will also see integration of local applications such as Airtel, Hello English and Where is My Train.

If a user has pre-approved loans from a bank that Google Pay has partnered with, they can use the app to mention the amount they want to borrow and input time period it will take to repay.
The app has been used by over 22 million people and businesses to make over 750 million transactions that are collectively worth over $30 billion annually. With the lack of NFC-based mobile payment solutions in the country, Google opted not to launch Google Pay (formerly known as Android Pay) in India, and instead launched a UP-based mobile payment system which is different from NFC-based payment systems.
Google Maps also added better public transport guidance, which will inform riders of upcoming stops and alerts on when to get off.
Google Maps also announced a Maps Go version, which is lighter than the Maps app. Google Station is partnering Andhra Pradesh State FiberNet Limited to cover over 12,000 villages, towns and cities in the state of Andhra Pradesh, potentially reaching 10 million people.
