After last night's Sharp Objects finale (more on that shocking ending here), HBO released the first look at Mahershala Ali in the anthology crime drama, and it seems like the young detective is in for quite a challenge. "Things I've seen. Things I know", Ali's Wayne says in the trailer. "I want to know the whole story". Later, Wayne is shown looking troubled in old age and a young Amelia appears to haunt him, asking him, "Did you think you could just go on and never once have to look back?"
There's actually a lot to be optimistic about for True Detective's third season in addition to the teaser. Similar to the show's critically acclaimed first season, Season 3 will unfold across multiple time periods with the trailer providing glimpses of Hays at different points of his life haunted by the ongoing investigation. Stephen Dorff (Blade) plays his partner, Roland West, an Arkansas State Investigator whose career has been influenced by a baffling crime Arkansas.
The first season of True Detective aired in January 2014 and was an instant hit, with standout lead performances from film stars Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson and Michelle Monaghan, leading to five Primetime Emmy award nominations and one win, plus four more nods at the Golden Globes.
True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto returns to pen the entire season, as he has for the past two seasons.
