Star Trek: Discovery will return to Space in 2019. Anson Mount's Captain Christopher Pike (who commanded the iconic Trek vessel before Captain Kirk used it to ignore the Prime Directive and romance alien ladies all over the galaxy) comes aboard to take command of the Discovery, noting that a unusual, powerful new signal has been emanating from space. She was originally played by Majel Barrett-Roddenberry.
San Diego Comic-Con 2018 already gave us our first taste of Doctor Who Season 11, and now they've treated us to an in-depth look at what Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 has in store. According to the showrunner, you can thank the original Star Trek TV series for that. The four Short Treks episodes will roll out monthly beginning this fall, and will be stand-alone stories, each running approximately 10-15 minutes. Season 2 will consist of 13 episodes and will see the search for Spock unfold. Another installment will focus on a man who finds himself the only human on board a deserted ship.
Doug Jones, who appears in Discovery as Saru, will receive a backstory episode in the mini-series, explaining how he became the first of his race to join Starfleet. "Obviously the spore drive is one of those elements, and by the end of Season 2 you will realize why certain things occurred".
Fans will not have to wait until January to get some Star Trek: Discovery.
Each of the "Short Treks" episodes will reveal clues about the story unfolding on "Star Trek: Discovery", a series that is heading into its second season, co-creator and executive producer Alex Kurtzman said. It's a role that not many have gotten to play.
Romijn will play the original character from the unaired pilot alongside Mount's Pike.
That makes sense since we now know Captain Christopher Pike will be pairing up with our Discovery crew after their recent time-hop.
